To wake up your campus PC from a remote location, you will need to set its BIOS and network adapter as indicated below. The procedure will depend on the manufacturer of the computer.
If you have difficulty with these settings, contact the NC State Help Desk during business hours.
As soon as you see the Dell logo, start tapping the F2 key until you get a settings window.
If this window does not open, allow the machine to continue booting up, then turn it off and start again.
From the menu in the left-hand panel of the settings window, select: Power Management
In the Remote Wake Up window, mark the Enable radio button.
To save your changes, click on: Apply (or press another button or key if specified).
Click Exit.
Set the network adapter as follows:
Open the Control Panel of your campus PC.
Select Device Manager.
To allow changes, click Yes.
In the list, click on the Network Adapters drop-down menu.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to set your campus PC to go to sleep after you have used it from a remote location. Otherwise, it will continue using energy needlessly and reduce the advantage of PowerOn.
Setting up for sleep will vary, depending on:
manufacturer
operating system
technical support group
NOTE:If you are using a managed desktop, DO NOT attempt sleep setup. Please contact your IT support personnel for assistance.
